NVS Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential co-education school from Class-VI to XII. These Vidyalayas offer free education to the talented rural children. The facilities to students include free boarding / lodging uniform, stationary, to and fro rail / bus fare from home. Efforts are made to ensure that the Vidyalaya Management Committee under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate / Collector or Deputy Commissioner has a responsive participation of parents. Safety and security of children and effective mess management are also given prime importance. 394 Vidyalayas have been provided with vehicles. Being residential in nature management, proper mess is of great importance in Navodaya Vidyalayas. The mess is run by the Vidyalaya itself under the overall direction of the Chairman of the Mess Committee. Guidelines for the dining system have been issued in detail. For efficient functioning of the Mess, the Mess Committee has been constituted in the JNVs.

Mess Committee
For effective Mess Management, each JNV  shall constitute a Mess committee comprising of the following members:

1. Principal Chairperson
2. Vice-Principal Mess I/C
3. One PGT (on rotation) Member (at least once)
4. One TGT / Misc. Teacher (on rotation) Member (Lady Teacher)
5. Staff Nurse Member
6. Catering Assistant Member Secretary
7. School Captain Member
8. School Vice Captain (Girl) Member
9. One Migrated student Member
10. One Student from each class Member
The meeting of the Mess Committee shall be held at least once in a month.
 
   

The Duties and Functions of the Mess Committee:

  • To plan and finalize the Menu and to suggest changes there in within existing financial norms.

  • To supervise the quality and quantity of food stuff procured for the Vidyalaya Mess.

  • To supervise the preparation & cooking of food in Mess.

  • To suggest ways and means for making local purchases of fresh provisions, reduction in wastage of food, maintenance of proper discipline in the mess and maintenance of cleanliness in the dining hall and surrounding areas.

  • To suggest and implement an effective serving system in the dining hall.

The tenure of the Mess Committee is for one calendar year. The Samiti has sanctioned one post of a Cook and a Mess helper for Vidyalaya having a student strength of 200 and one post of Cook and two Mess helper for Vidyalaya having students more than 200. the Principals are allowed to appoint a few more helpers on part time / casual basis.
